Cigar Box Fiddles!
Ever
since the mid 19th Century, musicians have been crafting musical instruments
from cigar boxes. My inspiration is to continue this tradition, making the instruments as good as they can possibly be made. All Carolina Fiddle violins are full 4/4 size. I am very careful to follow all standard dimensions for this instrument, such as scale length overall length, neck angle, fingerboard size and shape, etc. Tuck a Carolina Fiddle under your chin, and it will fit you just like a standard violin.
Antique Cigar Boxes make interesting violins. Check out the Counsellor, and the Sparkled Cubas. Both made attractive and wonderful sounding instruments. Here is a nice old Hav-A-Tampa instrument.
Each Carolina Fiddle is individually conceived and built by hand to take best advantage of the box, and to result in the best possible, playable instrument. The sound is wonderful! Every instrument has its own unique voice. They tend to be full bodied, resonant with fully developed warmth. Here is an Mpeg created by Jane Peppler and her partner Bob Vasile, who perform as The Pratie Heads. This cut appears on their new album "WE DID IT! Songs of People Behaving Badly".
